Grant Funding

Public R&D grant funding - what's available, is it right for you & how do you apply? Save time by hearing from people who know the ropes and help organisations like yours apply for a share of £millions of support that’s available for the development of world-class technologies.

Our speaker will give a perspective of someone that not only helps companies secure £millions of grant funding for their own R&D, but he will also share how he has successfully secured R&D grants to grow his own group of technology start-ups and some of the issues crop up when spending the grant.

Delivered by Andrew Miles, Managing Director, TRC group of companies

Andrew spent 15 years of his career building a multi-disciplined, pan-EU technology consultancy business to over £20m turnover with 230 staff. His main focus was in helping small manufacturing companies to bring new technology to market. As the sector is not renowned for being awash with cash, his team soon developed the skills to secure EU and UK public R&D grant funding to help finance the technology development programmes and over the last couple of decades his teams have secured funding for some €400m of projects.

Having identified a number of new technologies he wanted to bring to market himself, in 2011, alongside two co-directors, he set up The Technology Research Centre, which acts as a mothership to six technology spin-out companies. He runs the TRC in order to finance the growth of the spin out companies, which earns its money through offering specialist technology consultancy to a number of multi-nationals, as well as facilitating grant funding applications for small manufacturing companies. He is also taking his own medicine, having successfully secured several-£million of grant funding for his own spin out companies.

In his presentation, Andrew will share his knowledge of the current grant funding landscape, how he has secured grant funding to finance his spin-outs, and offer advice to those seeking to secure funding for their own businesses.
